Take the beautiful Devon Countryside, add some Mongolian Yurts, a handful of starry nights around a roaring campfire; then blend in five days of kick ass photofilm training with some of the best teachers in the business and you have the recipe for a workshop with soul.

Hey Wait! Don’t stop there.

Stir in some inspirational talks, evening screenings in the big barn, local scrumpy and delicious home cooked food, the opportunity to share your work and the achievement of producing your own photofilm, and you’ll get a taste for how The Hinterlands workshop is an adventure beyond the borders of photography.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Make it affordable.

The Hinterlands is five day residential workshop designed to give you the skills to produce photofilms to a professional standard.

The workshop is organised by Rebecca Harley and Mike Lusmore in collaboration with duckrabbit’s Benjamin Chesterton and David White and will also include some top, top guests coming along to talk.

Training will focus on audio recording and photography and will be gathered on location at stories researched by The Hinterlands team. These will be drawn from the surrounding area and will include commercial subjects, as well as human interest features to cover a broad range of skills. There will also be talks and discussions focusing on the ‘doing’ and ‘thinking’ aspects of digital storytelling.

The workshop, running from 27th May-1st June 2012 is set in the heart of the mid-Devon countryside in the UK. You will sleep underneath the stars in beautiful Mongolian Yurts and devour delicious home cooked food provided by an on site cook.

The Hinterlands will end with a photofilm night open to members of the local community with a closing night barbeque, local cider and a campfire.

This will be an intense, thought provoking  and deliciously rewarding few days, but it will also be a lot of fun and we may even throw in some sparklers.

But dont just take our word for it – here’s what photographer Tessa Bunney, who attended the last Hinterlands workshop, had to say.

“It was the perfect combination of training and great photographic company in a fantastic location. I learnt how to transform my existing skills into what’s required for a photofilm and gained a valuable insight into interviewing and audio recording techniques – the visiting lecturers were the icing on the cake!” Tessa Bunney
