How sick are you

of hearing about the Israelis and Palestinians blowing each other to smithereens?

Fair enough,

I don’t blame you,

its a depressing cycle.

The easy response of the journalist, is just to give in to the apathy of the audience. But that’s not our job.¬† We have to find new ways of illuminating the world, of getting under the skin of what is going on and focusing on the range of contrasts, not just the hatred and brutality.

A duckrabbit hats off then to John Pendygraft of Tampabay.com for his thoughtful film about how rap is being used to advocate the rights of Palestinians. There is real power in watching the boys featured here spit out the words, not on a stage, but literally from the heart of the troubles. As one of the rappers puts it

‘Instead of using bombs and guns maybe words are going to bring me the solution?’

Today I’ll put my cynicism to one side and cross my fingers that he’s right.
