What is sad is that most Muslims will consider this an attack on Islam and dismiss it altogether as propaganda. Instead of doing more to understand and better their system. This girl was lucky to leave, but sadly many more will have to live in secrecy as rapists continue to rape and abuse children without anyone holding them responsible.
Sadly this is not just a problem of some Islamic countries, but the world over. In Ethiopia, where I lived, rape was all too common, especially of young girls.
Over time I’ve come to believe that women’s rights should be one of the highest priorities of development. We should all be striving to live in a more equal world.

I just heard the interview in full
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/documentaries/2009/03/090326_outlook_islamabuseconf.shtmland I’m not surprised. What is sad is that a country as rich as Abu Dhabi, and considered the richest in the world cannot find a place for rape victims and victims of abuse. They call themselves modern and cannot even send a rapist behind bars.

Shame on them for looking away.
Thanks for this Asma …
