Just read that AP photographer Emilio Morenatti has been badly injured:

‘Emilio Morenatti, a 40-year-old photographer for The Associated Press whose pictures from the Middle East have been likened to artwork, was badly wounded Tuesday in southern Afghanistan when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by a roadside bomb. The blast also injured Andi Jatmiko, 44, a videographer for A.P. Television News from Indonesia.’

Emilio’s photographs were featured heavily recently in an awesome set on the Boston Big Picture Blog.  He is a wonderful, humane photographer, in the same class as Finbarr O’Reilly.  Really he’s class.

What can you say?  Good luck Emilio and Andi, our hearts go out to you and your family.

Terrible news but also highlights how much freelancers are missing out on without the support of agencies. If Emilio wasn’t with AP, what would his chances of survival be then?

He is brave guy and a adventures good photojournalist too. I learn a lot from his photography but met him only once . Its possible something like this can happen to one of us. It could have been me. I pray for Emilio Morenatti.
