Do you know the difference between a large pizza and a photographer?
Written by duckrabbitI’m a fan of citizen journalism and everything it brings, good and bad. It’s an amazing privilege to have such intimate access to people’s lives and experiences, from people who are inevitably closer to the action and better informed than most visiting reporters. Suddenly the voiceless have a voice that reaches all around the world, sometimes with dramatic results.
Stephen Mayes
Do you know the difference between a photographer and a large pizza ? A pizza can feed a family of four !
p.s. If you follow the link you’ll see that Mayes is actually arguing with his usual intelligence for the importance that there are professional photographers recording human rights abuses and their aftermath.

I wonder if Stephen likes citizen doctors or citizen lawyers?
Citizen journalism has a use, but it’s not the be all and end all. It’s another way for publications to ensure their bottom line is kept healthy without the financial burden of using professionals. Sure the story might not be as polished, the images blurry and often lacking composition, but it’s the future man and people love the future.
Too true,
If you follow the link actually Stephen argues that there is a need for strong photojournalism in the field of human rights.
