they can put it with the infamous danish tourism video: http://mashable.com/2009/09/14/danish-woman-video-hoax/

  2. But to be precise, it’s Faroer Islands where this happens (i have to step up a bit for Denmark here… 😉
I was there some time ago. It’s really sad that it is still allowed without a doubt. It has a long history where the whole (very small) society of Faroer is involved or at least participate from the killed whales as it gets divided between all of them. There is a clear system how much everyone gets, what is allowed and all that without any direct commercial value. Also the system how they hunt them is regulated in this old traditions, so there are only specific tools and small boats allowed. If a whale escapes (what happens to most of them, it is not allowed to hunt them. It’s a long tradition what happens in this specific 17 bays, even when today there is no need anymore to kill the whales plus it is not even healthy to eat them. At least it is only allowed when the whales come into the bays and the system gives them a chance to escape.
Nothing what makes the whole story an ounce better, just a small bit of background.

  3. Thanks Simon. Denmark is great. I made a programme in Copenhagen and had a wonderful time.

Your response HIGHLIGHTS how we should never read too much into a single photograph. That would be nuts.
