borderlands – Global Post
Written by Ciara LeemingThis is an interesting project – a series of photofilms and written pieces exploring China’s culturally rich – and sometimes politically striven – borderlands, by Global Post. The photography is strong. My personal gripe would be that it’s the reporter who contextualises every story with their own narrative, but that’s probably just me being picky. Worth a look.

I dont mind that the journalist contextualise the story. It is not as if she is the photojournalist and says “I shot this because…” as she sticks to the journalism. I think I know what you mean, sometimes it nice to let the images just work for themselves but in this case, I think it adds to the story.
Both the journalist and the photojournalist are women. I would like to add that they deserve a greater voice in the industry at the very least because they represent half of the audience.
Good spot!
I think you misunderstand me. I wouldn’t prefer images on their own – I’m just not generally a fan where a reporter or photographer narrates a photofilm in their own voice. personal preference, that’s all…. I don’t mean to detract from the project, which is good
Apologies for misunderstanding.
