these are beautiful images, very artistic in a static, kind of Diane Arbus way. I too have a son with autism and I have also had a photo exhibit about him to bring awareness to the topic of Autism.
now that I have watched a few photofilms here and elsewhere on the web, I can see how these images by Timothy Archibald need, really need, the audio commentary. at no time did I perceive that his son collaborated with his father on the creation of these images. this was not apparent from just looking at them. many of the images the son appeared lost in his own world, and I assumed he was probably non-verbal. but the son IS verbal – how much more compelling would this be if there was audio attached, of the son describing his ideas to his father?
I am working in earnst to figure out how to leave my job at a local newspaper and shoot for NGO’s full time.
I attended an open house at The New School yesterday in NYC. they have a one year certificate program in documentary studies that I was curious about. it is all video based. I have come to the conclusion that I dont’ think in video and I think in stills and photofilms. I think photofilms (and stills) will work more effectively for NGO’s on their websites and for their education/awareness campaigns.
so, I want to learn. I need to learn. I have chatted with Ciara on facebook and she shared some of the programs involved. and I know Ben metioned to me the possiblity of holding a workshop in Brooklyn thru Joseph Rodriquez? I am really hoping that becomes a reality. I will do all I can to help out in anyway.
I also stopped by ICP yesterday and picked up their class schedule. I see Joseph Rodriguez teaches there (I assume it is the same guy?). would/could your workshop be held thru ICP?
I know I need to build up my portfolio and I have a bunch of good ideas and opportunities all around me. I need to refine my technical skills and I have decided that there are good workshops available instead of a 1 year certificate program at a very expensive school.
I am patiently waiting for you guys to come to the US!
