“Just me and a blank sheet of paper” – YES

A little while back on old friend from the BBC got in touch to ask if I would spend some time talking with Sally Flatman, the producer of BBC Radio 4’s Christmas appeal.  The appeal supports Connections (St Martin’s in the Fields) vital work with homeless people in London.

To cut a long story short Sally had come across duckrabbit’s work and was interested in producing a photofilm to support the appeal.  She did much, much better than that. She got a project off the ground  where some of the homesless people were given cameras and encouraged to document their lives. (this is the kind of work rabbit gets up to, we just don’t talk about it enough!)

All that is to say that Jamie Winter’s thought provoking photos are something else.  They should give him the Deutsche Borse. Really.

Please do watch this very short photofilm.

Imagine how happy duckrabbit was to recieve these kind words from Sally the day the appeal was launched:

To be honest it was your slideshows with their use of sound (as well as great pictures) that really inspired me and the guys at the Connection…I could really see the power of this medium.

Best of luck with the appeal this year Sally … hope that you break the million mark.

Fucking brilliant. Am I allowed to swear?

Best of luck to Jamie and all those involved in the appeal.

    Happy Christmas everyone.

Yeah its wonderful isn’t it … such an antidote to all the over produced work we see … love all the pauses … its just very honest and authentic and the photography makes you really think about the subject.

  2. Just want to say congratulations to everyone involved in this great project. I think it will really help to open the eyes of those of us so fortunate at Christmas and the rest of the year. Visibility ie needed and the medium of audio-slideshows is so very approachable and effective.
