Open Eye – The Missing (BBC World Service and on-line, 19th January)

A sniper’s position in a building that was damaged during the 1975-90 Lebanese civil war, situated on what used to be the Green Line, a line of demarcation that separated Beirut into two parts,East and West, during the Lebanese civil war.  A few destroyed buildings can still be found even 20 years after the end of the civil war.

  1. Steven Clark says:

I remember there was an Australian 60 Minutes report that stuck with me… about the young teenagers and children who were the snipers on The Green Line. Very disturbing. I met another guy Jaffa who was about 20 at that time and he was a raving headcase in some respects, he got deported back to Lebanon because he just didn’t get that we don’t live in that kind of violent criminal society.

So I occasionally wonder about those kids and how they’ve coped. Its a big thing to live with at that age especially.
