Panos Pictures Wants One Year Multimedia Intern

For full time work you’ll get just under £13000 for the year. Living in London this will only suit someone who lives with their Mum and Dad or who is happy sleeping under a bridge and eating with good people at The Salvation Army.

Panos are doing some really great work in this area, so if it was a choice between spending £13000 on a degree or spending a year with Panos and getting £13000 I’d be tempted by this. Anna who runs the multimedia side of Panos is very talented and a super nice person too.

THAT SAID, this is supposed to be TRAINING POSITION. In that case I feel their advert should outline how they will train you, which makes it suspiciously look like cheap labour. I think they could have given a bit more thought to this.

For the right person a great opportunity.

Marco thanks for pointing that one out. Again for the right person I can see the benefits BUT I do think the skillset is far too high for an intern.

      What do you think?

      • marco says:

        I totally agree with you.

The adjective “expert” leaves me a bit puzzled but it is a good opportunity, indeed. (and at least it’s 6 months)

Really, the more I think about it, it’s taking the piss.

Really taking the piss. But its still a good opportunity for the experience. The problem is they are looking for someone who is already massively experienced to have that skill level. In which case they should be paying £25000, minimum.

Did you check out on BBC2 last night the programme on who gets the best jobs? I bet that for many of these if they advertised an unpaid internship they’d get about the same applicants anyway. In the case of Panos, 13k for one year’s work… that’s around what I get at my current job anyway! (Of course, I don’t have to pay London prices for everything I do, though.)

Joni, I used to work at the BBC, so I know how it goes! I earned a lot more then!

13K in London is hard but I do think its a great opportunity for the right person. Anna is someone who the right person can really learn from.

The other job that is linked to here seems to be really taking the piss asking for an expert!

    Joni absolutely spot on!

Why is it that the only people that make any money are finance people? Because they are paid to be ruthless bastards instead of humane and intelligent, maybe we photojournalist have to get more in touch with our inner ‘bastard’…
