Leica: Pay more, get less.
Written by David WhiteGenius. Really. Only Leica and Porsche pull this nonsense off…pay more for less.
At least with a posh Porsche you could maybe argue that a car with less features which sells for more money makes sense because, as Colin Chapman said, they are adding lightness, and hence speed.
However, with the new Leica M9-P, you pay a grand more (£5395) than the already overpriced M9 for the same camera apart from the fact that the screen is better protected, and there is no red dot. WTF is wrong with a bit of tape and a screen protector? Save a grand and put it towards some decent glass..
Every -user- of Leica M’s that I know tapes their red dot over as a matter of course. Somehow however Leica pull it off…over 1500 of the things were sold in the first day. Ludicrous, unless you have more money than sense. Obviously there are many who do…
Come to think of it, maybe the duck should apply this to our training price structures…we’ll up the prices by a grand, and on one of the days we’ll just sod off down the pub leaving the students festering in their own ignorance….why didn’t we think of that before? Damn.

Yes, the Leicas overpriced, don’t buy one then.
I got 14 30″ exhibition prints of images from the M9 last week and they were quite exceptional in sharpness and detail. For certain kinds of photography there is simply no other camera that delivers its qualities of small size, quietness, discreetness and image quality. Yes I feel robbed blind but they have no competitors so I had no choice…they can charge what they like.
Guys, you could charge students more for NOT blogging about them… a discretion premium for VIP students or something. Somebody might even take it seriously! 😀
Hey that’s a cracking idea. Pay us or we’ll write something about you!
