Don McCullin and Eugene Richards having a heavy natter..

  1. Interesting that virtually all of the photographers’ chatter on twitter and elsewhere has been about the conversations between McCullin and Richards and Stephen Shore and Gregory Crewdson and has ignored the women in the PDN series — Tina Barney and Gillian Laub — and the African-Americans — Eli Reed and Wayne Lawrence.

The one I posted is the only one I’ve seen John..am off now to view others…I hope they’re as good as this one..

That really wasn’t a dig at Duckrabbit. Or not only at Duckrabbit.

I couldn’t help but notice how the conversation was going in the photog blogosphere and on twitter. Still is.

BTW, I do realize that the fascination with McCullin, Richards, Shore, and Crewdson and the inattention to Reed, Lawrence, Barney, and Laub are driven by more than race and gender. But there’s no doubt that they play a significant role. (Even in photogs’ ideas about what gets valorized and what doesn’t.)

    Fascinating and revealing. Thanks.
