Getting caught out, print v photography

When a much respected print journalist gets caught embellishing his work, all hell breaks loose. It wouldn’t have raised much of an eyebrow in the past, but a twitter crowd ensured the story wouldn’t go to bed.

When a World Press winning photographer gets called out for staging his work, silence.

Don’t you think it would be a better industry if we actually had the conversation? That way I can stop telling the people I teach that if they are serious about winning a World Press they should stage their work.

Likewise, when a world famous film director drops a bomb- they get to hear about it, and pronto!

Meanwhile, “made” photographers (and I really think that’s the proper term here) can release as many lame dogs as they want after they’re accepted into the family- and mum’s the word… eg- Cindy Sherman and her ever changing same ol’ bag of turds. Robert Frank- just how many variations of scratched up, cut up, bent up partial reissues of The Americans have been disseminated throughout the decades as new and revelatory “works of art?” And how’s Paul Graham’s Fabulous Book of Dots working it for everyone out there?
