I’m going to give you a link to an article that will make you very angry

But first I want to deal with the connection between pornography and pictures of starving children, aka ‘starvation pornography’. There isn’t one.

I’ve written about this before, but here we go again:

Photographers do not get turned on by pictures of starving children. Editors do not get turned on by pictures of starving children. Aid workers do not get turned on by pictures of starving children. Readers do not get turned by pictures of starving children. (of course there may be the odd sick person who does). Pictures of starving children are upsetting. They are upsetting the first time you see them and they are upsetting the last. They do not give people pleasure.

Personally I find the use of the word ‘pornography’ when related to pictures of starving children as distasteful as the sometimes cynical use of those pictures. That child in the picture is someone’s child. If you started describing a picture of MY suffering child as in some way pornographic I would be outraged and deeply hurt. It is a further injustice to the indignity my child is already suffering.

Plea over. Not that anyone will listen.

That’s some crazy, sick shit! Really hadn’t realized the paparazzi mindset had so thoroughly expanded to the farthest ethical and geographical reaches. And you were being vilified the other day for being the “FOX” photo blog?!?! Why haven’t more photojournalism blogs and professional photographic organizations been jumping up and down to denounce and condemn the photographers who photograph these gross exaggerations and the editors and publications that publish them?

Speaking of FOX, I didn’t think I’d see starving kids so exploited in TWO outlets today-

Seems yet another onslaught of dying baby photos is inevitable…
