Lens Culture International Multimedia Exposure Awards

$75 for a multimedia entry? Ouch.

Oh yeah and if you want to enter a film that is over eight minutes you need to edit it down:

If your full-length multimedia piece is longer than 8 minutes, please submit an edit, or a trailer or teaser of 8 minutes or shorter.

That’s like saying if your photo is wider than 3/2 format then please crop it. Lens Culture are literally asking people to create a new version just for them instead of judging the work that audiences have seen. Even to submit a trailer?

Does anybody else think this is just a little bit absurd? A film is made for an audience and what the audience sees surely is what should be judged? Fine if you don’t want to watch films over eight minutes, just put a cap on the length.

One other piece of advice don’t go throwing your money at competitions until you know who will be judging the work. That’s important. (lens culture have announced a really good line up of judges)

You might also want to question competitions that fail to publish some kind of criteria for judging. Lens Culture have left it as wide open as possible, which leaves them wide open to the suggestion that they are just trying to profit from as many entries as possible.

That aside Lens Culture is a great site and if this helps them keep going, fair enough. I just hope they sharpen up the rules.

I can see there being a time limit- but if they are supposed to “compete” against each other, be judged as “equals” for awards, etc… How the hell can completed films compete against edited films while competing with trailers??? Unless, of course, there are categories for all three.

My thoughts exactly Stan. That’s nuts. You have to judge what the audience see, or else what’s the point of making these things if its only to enter comps!
