Une super idée, bravo JR!
This is just so beautiful, so touching, a small kindness that has changed lives, to feel that others care about their suffering. A simple idea but much appreciated. An act of love for each woman whose face was transformed and seen.
Thanks a million to JR for this work on behalf of those women.
A big hug…
YES … well said Jenny. And by the way I really enjoyed looking at your pictures from Arles.
Terrific!
This is why photography is so effing powerful, when used intelligently.
We all look at faces every day, and using a ‘face’ to confront issues such as this is inspired.
As my old dad used to say
“if you see someone who doesn’t have a smile on their face, give them one of yours….”
John you are so right. This is phtography as intervention. Photography about and for people. THANKS for your comments (as always)
Oh my.
Ben,
This is an absolutely incredible post, thankyou so much, I am left speechless. I came across JR’s work earlier this year and for me, he is without doubt the most inspirational photographer I have ever come across.
I have just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and never before have women’s struggles been at the forefront of my mind as they are now. Women are discriminated against, abused and oppressed and the world just sits back and watches, not knowing, not caring, I’m not sure. JR has given these women a voice and brought their struggles to the attention of the rest of the world.
Incredible.
