Help Kill Pete Brook
Written by duckrabbitYes you heard me right. It’s Sunday, so I’m going to ask for a bit of charity. Will you help duckrabbit kill the Prison Photography and Wired blogger Pete Brook?
How and Why?
How is the easy part, so let’s start with the why?
Pete really winds us up at duckrabbit.
We only started the blog to get richer and even more famous and win loads of awards and to make all the friends who disowned us jealous. And if we’re honest, yes, we even dreamed that we might be the ones to go down in history as having killed off photography. Thanks to Christopher Anderson’s kind endorsement of duckrabbit as the ‘Glenn Beck of the photography world’, we’re half way way there. There’s only one big problem, Pete Brook is standing in our way, and that’s why we need you to help us kill him.
Why Pete (the author of Prison Photography Blog and other good shit)?
It’s simple.
When Pete’s around no-one pays us any attention. He’s a blogging God. And what really gets on our nerves is that when people write their lists of favorite blogs Pete’s always comes out on top, despite the fact that he can’t even tell his f-stop from his elbow.
When I got to sleep at night I ask the Lord ‘what did I do to deserve Pete?’ And now the Lord has answered my prayers.
Pete has come up with the perfect vehicle to kill himself and all we need to do is pay for it.
Infact lots of jealous bloggers and photographers have already stumped up some cash to help kill Pete. These include Joerg Colburg, Jonathan Worth, Ciara Leeming, John Edwin Mason, Tom White, Alan Chin, Nina Berman, Edmund Clark (always suspected he has a killer in him) David Campbell and Michael Shaw.
So how’s this going to work?
Easy just do the world a favor and give some cash to Pete’s Kickstater Project:
‘Prison Photography’ on the Road is a journalism project. I will conduct over 40 audio interviews, publish them online and make them available to the prison reform and photography communities free of charge via Creative Commons licensing. My writing during the trip will also be CC licensed. I’m doing the legwork so others can enjoy the ride and use the results.
‘Prison Photography’ on the Road is about photography. I’ll be meeting the most creative and celebrated photographers who, through their work in prisons, have shaped America’s visual culture and the debate on U.S. criminal justice.
Sounds good right? And it is. But for the small amount of money Pete is asking for, against the unbelievable amount of work and travel he’s promising he’ll complete, not mention the amazing rewards he’s promising backers, I can safely say this project will be the death of him.
Good riddance I say.
So dig deep.

Brilliant plan. But…fundamentally flawed. See several posts below – Chucks Taxidermy will ensure that PB will continually stand in your way, upright, staunch, riding the difficult moments with a cold but haughty stare. Now ask yourself honestly Duckrabbit – is the status quo better than being….er stiffed by a stiff? Either way I’d say you’re stuffed.
Shit John, you’re right?
But would a stuffed Pete be as good a writer?
It’s true, this trip could be the death of me.
If it’s not the thunder storms on the great plains or the hipsters in New York, it’ll definitely be the open-container laws in New Orleans. Seriously though, it’ll be a shed load of work. Lots of fun but I might just have to go 12 weeks without beauty sleep. If I manage, pints are on me when I visit the UK in January; we can stare at each others’ ugly mugs.
Thanks for the post Davamin and Benjid.
