Nintendo, Parr, 3D, er, blimey.
Written by David White…is it an advert? Sure smells like one to me…

I wouldn’t really care, apart from the fact that Martin Parr is straight as a die…odd, yes, but true. He is someone who, as far as I know, has not endorsed any bit of kit, ever, even when he was really using it. Did you ever hear him say “Buy this Nikon ringflash” ,”Stock up on Agfa Ultra”, I love my Plaubel Makina” ? No? No. The clip makes no mention of payment, doesn’t say advert, but this is obviously a commercial marriage. Even Magnum call it a partnership. I wouldn’t mind if they just came clean, like VII did with their Canon tie in.
I therefore don’t know now whether Martin really feels that 2D images are “quite flat” or not, whether he is genuinely excited by 3D, or not, whether he likes ice creams, or not, whether he really digs the 640×480 resolution, or not. I do think he will have been excited by the 3D, but now I can’t trust him. Bugger.
This would appear to be a covert celebrity endorsement, and I think there are laws against that, and possibly even against stalking people in parks with “disguised technology”…
If you really want amazing 3D stills there are way better options, and for not much more money. In fact duckrabbit have just produced the world’s first humanitarian photofilm for MSF on a 3D stills camera (Catch the piece here), and it wasn’t a Nintendo. We did it because it works.
Next week, Gregory Crewdson talks exclusively about how he has rediscovered photography with the new iphone 5.

Did you just slag off Parr and then in the same breath plug your own piece for MSF? 😉
