Save The Children is stalking me
Written by duckrabbitThis bloody advert is following me EVERYWHERE I go on the web. Not just today but for days on end. So much so I’m thinking about taking out an injunction, or else selling my computer.
The mistake I made, it seems, was to show an interest in Save The Children by clicking on the ad, now they smell cash and won’t let me go.
Take a closer look at the photo. Something is very wrong.
The baby’s not sick, the baby’s not half-dead, the baby doesn’t have a drip coming out of their nose, the baby doesn’t have a weeping mother, the baby doesn’t have flies in his eyes. The baby looks healthy. The baby looks cute. The baby reminds me of my own kids.
Wow. Now there’s a smart idea. Stalk this selfish bastard of a duck with a picture of a baby that he’s going to feel is worth saving cause it reminds him of his own.
Now if you promise to stop stalking me Save The Children, I’ll give you a fiver.

Speaking of which…
here in Italy, since one year more or less, we are watching this spot from STC.
https://www.savethechildren.it/IT/Tool/ECommerce?canale=8
It’s in italian, but..here is the translation…
“Asha would ask you something, if he could. He would ask you to save his life, but he is exhausted and very hungry. He would look into your eyes, he would ask you to save him if he would know that someone, somewhere, is ready to help him. If Asha would ask you, would you help him? It takes very little to help a child like Asha, and save his life. The solutions are simple, but we need your help. With 9 euros you can save the life of a child, assuring the necessary food. Asha can not ask, but we can. Help us to prevent many children die. Asha would thanks you, if he could.”
Now. STC started almost one year ago with this kind of communication. We can discuss if it’s good or not. Personally, “if i could” i would kick some as…inside the Communication Department of STC. But, at the time something else came into my mind. The fact that it was the first time that i was watching an NGO-tv-spot which was using “the South” in a such horrible way..to raise money of course. Well..i don’t know about other countries, but it was the first time here in Italy. I thought..that STC overpass a line..defining new standards..new ethics “rules” for a tv-spot…and that after a while others would have overpass that line. One year passed and i was right…UNICEF now are doing the same thing..a tv-spot..with the same kind of music/voice over..etcetc.
Does it happening only here for STC, or it’s another “good thing” to be proud of..as italians!
