We’re living in a post-racism society

That’s the response we’ve had many times at duckrabbit when debating imagery and image takers.

My arse.

This disturbing British woman is mouthing the way many people think and as the economy collapses its only going to get worse. Fortunately she’s in the minority, but its a minority that must not be ignored. Many of them are victims of poor policy too. That’s a story worth telling.

  1. Phew. WTF is her child going to think.

Desperate isn’t it. But there are huge numbers of kids who grow up in families like this. We might not want to admit it. Huge numbers of kids in care too.

  2. I encountered the same attitude at the roadside recently in a National Nature Reserve (middle of nowhere) with my photography group. Bloke in a big Merc pulls into the layby (single track road), at the back of which our minibus was tucked well out of the way with plenty of room for cars to pass. Window winds down woman says “dont park in laybys” and as I replied the bloke lens over and in a broad Glasgow accent shouts with a purple face “shift your fuckin van you cunt”.

That was it for me. I didnt swear (mindful of my shocked group) but I told the pair of them where to go. So he gets out and strides towards me fists clenched all the while shouting “you fucking cunt shift that fucking van dickhead”. I stood and stared and he walked right past me and pointed to the rear of the van and said I should “fucking shift it smartarse right fucking now”.

I said no. Go away. He went ballistic and started shaking with rage, and his wife joins him and starts giving me lip too. I wondered which one was going to try to hit me first and what I should do to him/her in response (several years of martial arts and 6ft tall give me a few advantages, the latter of which they seemed oblivious to, the former they would certainly find out about the hard way).

The next thing is he’s ranting “you fucking english fucking wanker get back to you own fucking country you cunt. You fuckers think you own this fucking country well fuck off you dont so fucking shift”

That did it. I was incensed.

My reply “you’re so stupid you’re only half right. I might be a wanker but I’m certainly not english, I’m a scot and I object to your racist ranting so you’d better stop it. I’ve got a group here who dont need to listen to this nonsense.”

But he carried on, and on and on. I wont bore you with all the details but it got worse and culminated in me on the orad and him driving the Merc right at me and hitting me with the wing as I leapt out of the way.

Trying to explain to my (mostly English) group, what had just happened was very difficult.

Its not just an urban problem sadly.

The only good thing I can say is that, sometimes, kids grow up in families like that and, somehow, manage to be okay. No clue how they do it, but mad respect to the ones that find a way.

Unfortunately, the video doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Seen if firsthand far too many times.

  4. Paul Treacy says:

I’ve been told to “fuck off back to Ireland” many times. Were I not married to an English woman and have two English kids, I likely would.

What upsets me most of all is that people use such horrendous language in front of such small children. Whatever about the attitudes expressed.

    Paul.

Curious how she uses her child as a shield. Regardless, all the facts and logic in the world will not “enlighten” these types. Sometimes even the most hardened racists will have an epiphany, but it’s ever so rare- many people carry much of this animus with them, whether they verbalize it or not. And yes, with increasingly harder economic times, more is on the way.

I once saw this Pakistani girl carrying a sign in an anti-racism rally in London that read- We are here, because you were there. Pretty much sums it up.

Sad …but she (and people like her) would be great story. Such frustration is fascinating. The only problem would be to treat her with the respect as she is not showing any.

Love the irony of the Daily Mail covering this story. She’s probably a Daily Mail reader.
