Learn the art of photofilm production AND have your work exhibited at an international photography festival!

We are very pleased to announce a special training workshop that we’ll be running this November in conjunction with QUAD and FORMAT International Photography Festival. Particularly exciting news is that the films that our trainees make during this workshop will be publicly exhibited at FORMAT13 in March of next year, the biggest and most ambitious edition of the festival yet.
We’ll be running the workshop in the town of Belper just 8 miles north of Derby from 26th to the 30th November. Belper is a beautiful market town, part of the Derwent Valley World Heritage area and the home to a thriving artistic community. We’ll be basing ourselves in one of Belper’s most historic buildings to ensure that the spirit of the place seeps into the work we do.
Over the course of four days we’ll be teaching the art of photofilm making. We’ll take participants right through the production workflow, from identifying suitable stories, planning the shoot, gathering broadcast quality audio and photography through to post-production and completion of the project. All participants will produce their own two to three minute photofilm as part of a small production team.
Each group will work on a story researched by the FORMAT organisers relating to the festival’s theme of Factory and Mass Production. And each of the films that participants produce will be exhibited in the 6th edition of FORMAT International Photography Festival from the 8th March to 7th April 2013.
FORMAT is one of the UKs leading photography biennales focused on the best of what photography is and can be, through exhibitions, events, commissions, portfolio reviews, workshops, international meeting place and more.
In the evenings, when we’re not keeping participants busy working on their productions we’ll be putting on some social events too, including entertaining talks from international artists, industry professionals and a film screening courtesy of the lovely people at QUAD, in Derby. There may even be time to enjoy some of the great pubs and restaurants to be found in Belper. The week will end with a party where we get everyone involved, from participants to the film’s subjects and special guests together to show the work, enjoy a drink and reflect on the week.
So if you’re an energised and motivated individual looking to step into multimedia film production, like the idea of an intense, hard-working but very social week in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain AND you’d like to have your work exhibited at the FORMAT International Photo Festival then this is the workshop for you.
