One of 8 million, one of a kind

Picture 18

When I think about New York, I see yellow cabs, neon lights, bright colours, busy streets, huge theatres, glamorous bars and people, many people walking around, going in and out, in a hurry, eating, drinking, laughing, living. I see them all and none at the same time. Because in their plurality they become anonymous. But not for Todd Heisler.

His New York Times multimedia epic, One of 8 million, is a fragmented portrait of  life in one of the most iconic cities in the world.

This series of slideshows is without doubt a stunning and powerful example of how to narrate without falling into the typical cheesy, weepy approaches that we are so used to watching.

There are so many chapters to the series but this is an example I especially liked.
