Snakes in conference

“There was a three-foot-long black snake in the main conference room the other day.”

Now, I’ve been in a fair few hairy editorial conferences…never enjoyable, but I’ve never had to deal with that sort of snake
in there….give me a ranting editor over a hissing mamba anyday…the above is a rather incongruous but somehow believable line from this story about the sale of the Washington Times. They’re so skint they can’t afford an ‘exterminator’, allegedly. I’ve heard you can hire one of them in
Cali for $10, so they must be hard up.

Come to think of it, I can think of an editor who was able to dislocate his jaw and swallow junior reporters whole. They take about a week to digest, apparently.

Comment from the wonderful Graham Harrison:

“It can work both ways, David. Many moons ago I was commissioned to photograph a python for the Telegraph Magazine. After collecting the snake I went into the Telegraph office with it wrapped round my neck. Apparently the Features Editor caught sight of us, barricaded her office door and didn’t come out for several hours. Business was done by phone that day.”

Fantastic site guys! Had the pleasure of working with David a few times back in the days when there used to be newspapers and magazines. He had a Leica nailed(well screwed) to a piece of wood. Stumbled across duckrabbit and was stunned by the same ingenuity, power and heartfelt sincerity of his pictures and of the site itself. Absolutely amazing. Found it both inspiring and uplifting, emotional even. Wish you all the best with it and delighted to see you using your talents Mr White, with or without the wood. Will visit regularly. Chris

PS Interviewing Superman’s daughter was the highlight of my career! and thank God for Gideons Bible. Those were the days…
