Vimeo awards now in

Vimeo have just announced the winners of this years best video awards. Really pleased that my favourite film from this year so far ‘Last minutes with Oden’ won. Have a look at some really great videos. http://vimeo.com/awards/about

Let me suggest, and I am quite sober and serious, that it would behove Vimeo to restrict their awards selections to biannual
competition. This way there would me more time for critical reflection about the offerings, and less administrative furor.
When “art” competitions proceed at a slower rate, content wins in the ratio. When it must happen every year sometimes some of the most reflective work gets lost in the headlong shuffle to complete the judging within the restriction of time.

Sometimes it looks that way based upon the simplification of genres and categories. That procedure lends itself to cliché formalist categorization. Sometimes the Vimeo selections appear to have been made under the pressures of time restrictions.

Where’s the necessity of doing the competition every year?
