it seems that may be coming closer after Microsoft this week patented a new type of touch screen..one that uses plastic cells that act like pixels, protuding physically from the surface of the screen on demand. Ultraviolet light shifts the shape of the ‘pixels’ from underneath. fascinating stuff, but no good for landscapes…
I’m not making this one up. I’ve just read it on New Scientist. It doesn’t explain how the screen maps the image in the first place though, so no retro fit action I imagine.
