NO MM WPP 2010

I thought there would be an option to enter multimedia in this years World Press Photo contest. I thought so because the big dog himself, Michiel Munneke, wrote to me earlier this year explaining that “In the course of 2010, World Press Photo will develop a plan for how to accommodate multimedia in the annual contest.”
Obviously that has not happened in time for this years contest. I am trying to get clarification from Amsterdam as to when we will see a multimedia category…
Obviously there are a large number of very professional photojournalists using multimedia to tell important stories. As if I need to tell you that. I am a little surprised that the largest and most respected photojournalism showcase and competition in the world has not embraced the medium yet. And before you ask, no, I don’t have anything to put in. But I know many who do.
I could try to make up reasons why there is no mm this year, but that would be futile. I will wait until I get clarification from the WPP office, and let you know.
