Finbarr’s doors of perception are open..

..but the doors of his subjects are closed. Interesting personal essay and images form Finbarr O’Reilly, a very talented and respectful man.

Looking from outside into an open window one never sees as much as when one looks through a closed window.”

  1. O’Reilly’s a thoughtful guy. I’ve had a couple of email exchanges with him, and have always come away thinking about things differently. This set of photos tells us as much about America’s war as anything I’ve seen an a very long while.

Very nice indeed. Really great idea/concept. Wish I had thought of that when I was there! Bugger.

Can the people who think this is “great” and “interesting” expand a bit on their perspective?

The embed system has produced some of the most repetitive and pointless imagery in the history of reportage photography, and, as a result, we see ever more contrived efforts from photographers to make their work stand out: iPhone snaps, Holgas, cross processing…and now “the doors of Afghanistan”. How is this an advance on the normal diet of explosions, smoke, smiling kids, and traumatised troops?
