Protectors of sight..

Sophie Gerrard sent me a link. She had casually mentioned to me something she had been working hard on. I told her that if it was any good, I’d whack it up here for y’all to see. I had a suspicion it would be good, as she has been an enthusiastic duck student, and she is also a very generous spirited person. It’s here, ergo it’s good. Very, very good. Not only that, but it’s Sophie’s first photofilm. Damn has she worked hard. She has told me that some of the pics are to appear in an exhibition at The Royal Society of Medicine in October this year to coincide with World Sight Day 2011.

The AJEH hospital in Bihar, performs cataract surgery on over 100 patients every day, completely free of charge. Bihar is one of the worlds worst affected places for cataract blindness. This blindness is reversible and AJEH are working towards the World Health Organisations goal or eradicating curable blindness globally by 2010.

This is the 4 minute version, if you want to know more pop over to Vimeo and find the longer one. Impressive work for one individual, and a very worthwhile cause. Thanks Sophie. See what you can do on your own? Can you see?
