Sometimes (well, nowadays I think most of the time) it’s better that foreign journalists cover stories like these. Because the foreign press can ask for international intervention, get themselves out eventually. The local journalists will get it much worse. Where can they hide or run to? It’s their home. I have journalists friends who cannot return home for reporting about their country. Can’t see beloved family forever over one report. Not worth it.
This is a VERY GOOD point
I feel for Lynsey. I remember being stuck with one female broadcast editor (now at CNN), we said to each other “If we get out of this shit, we’ll have 10 kids.” At times like this, sod career. Family is more important.
