Living on Scrap

I’ve got to say a short doco about kids collecting scrap is not a very appealing prospect for a Saturday morning.  Rubbish dump shots in developing countries are ten a penny on ‘concerned photojournalist’ websites.  Putting my skepticism aside I clicked on Chris De Bode and Steven Elbers short doco, Living on Scrap.

The film does everything these photos can’t.  Asks us not to pity the children but respect them. Compelling, sensitive work.

  1. Impressive. While I was seeing the video my wife started to see it too. Is very direct on the nail. If they have no legal protection what can be waited for this children. I saw too because I did some work about child labour here in Buenos Aires, but culturally is a lot different. Here the children work sometimes meanwhile their parents are around begging and drinking. I wonder what is the story behind the parents of the children of the video. Many thanks for share and congratulations for the team that worked in that.
